David stands out as one of the UK’s top addiction psychiatrists, with more than ten years working on the front lines in both NHS and independent drug and alcohol services. Right now, he’s the Academic Secretary for the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Faculty of Addictions. In that role, he shapes national guidance and drives research and education to improve addiction care across the country. He’s also the UK Clinical Director at Clean Slate Clinic, a social enterprise that breaks down barriers to evidence-based addiction treatment.
David’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed. He’s won several big awards, including a Research Fellowship from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, plus a joint scholarship from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Oxford. He’s also secured over £200,000 in competitive Innovate UK funding, backing the development of tech that opens up access to effective addiction care.
You’ve probably seen or heard David in the national media - Elle Magazine, The Evening Standard, The Times, Vice, ITV’s This Morning, Channel 4 News - where he’s a regular expert voice, always pushing for ethical, transparent, and evidence-based treatment.
At the heart of everything he does is a commitment to fair access to safe, effective, and values-driven care, especially where clinical ethics, innovation, and smart service design meet. We’re genuinely thrilled to have David onboard and look forward to his guidance as we move EMCAT’s mission ahead.
Welcome Aboard!
